We're headed for Gooseberry Mesa again though we're off to an inauspicious start what with my pending root canal, or orthodontic therapy, as I prefer to call it. I was awakened this morning by stabbing pains in the tooth, that failed to improve with my positive thoughts and outright denial of the pain. I finally resorted to ibuprophen which took the edge off. I hope I can keep things tolerable for the next four days because I'm the camp cook.
My friend and dentist kindly provided me with some more serious pain medication but I'm hesitant to use it unless things get really ugly. The terrain on the mesa is challenging enough for my cycling skill level without the added impediment of mind altering drugs. I'll let you know how it goes. If it gets to be more than I can bear, there are plenty of places where the cliff height would assure a painless end if one rode decisively over the edge. Not to worry, I couldn't stand to damage my beautiful baby blue Intense Spider!

That is an awesome picture! If my mom was in any kind of health I would be hitting the rode in that direction. I am long overdue for a road trip and I still have gas money. I am thinking of heading to Sea Otter in Monterey but that is iffy with my mom's situation too. Have a wonderful wonderful trip and I am envious is the best way. YAY!
I hope you get your root canal done very soon and then you should be pain free
Will never ever get a root canal again, on the other hand last time I had a tooth pulled they gave me pain meds that I was perfectly willing to get another tooth pulled for in exchange for another scipt.
Never taking drugs makes the effect just peachy!
Anyho good luck with it
We have a Gooseberry Falls State Park along the north shore, great bike trail that although paved proves to be quite the challenge to the legs. It also has some cliffs that would make a trip to the dentist pointless.
Odd name for a mesa, do gooseberries grow in the dry country?
I hope you feel better!!
Crazy rut-rider! You are too cool in that pic!
A camp cook with a toothache. Ah, the irony. Hope u feel better soon!
@queenie - We would have enjoyed your company.
@englishjuls - I have mixed emotions...I dread the root canal but the discomfort is getting to be quite motivating.
@ElevenStones - I have no idea what a Gooseberry is but I doubt that it grows on the mesa. All we saw were cactus, sage brush and pinon pines.
@kenwats - Thanks, I'm really looking forward to seeing my dentist for a change.
@leblue7 - It was nothing a little red wine and ibuprophen couldn't cure
If you would start submitting these articles to a biking magazine, they would pay you so you could see a dentist on a regular basis.

I'm laughing on the inside. It's not the money; my dentist is a cycling buddy and will hardly take a dime for all the work he does on me. I try to wear low cut tops and push up bras when I visit him but those bibs they put on you always spoil the look.
Yeah, I'll bet those dental assistants love to cover you up. I figure if I keep harping on you, one day, you'll submit one. Those maagzines would love you because your articles come complete with pictures.
